Community Service
Jana
For my community service, I participated in a program called STAR Camps, where I worked with children ages 7-11 as a camp counselor. I prepared fun activities, worked closely with others to plan entertaining field trips, and spent time teaching engaging lessons to the students. Through this voluntary role, I learned a lot about working with not only children, but their parents and families. STAR Camps, organized by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, prepared me for teaching students in the classroom, and helped me practice patience and tolerance. In this photo, I’m pictured standing with some of my camp students. Participating in this type of community service allowed me to not only get learning experience, but it also allowed me to have a positive impact on young students’ lives.
